A new way to look at film. Who talks, who decides, who gets to act and whose interests weigh more. Open the archive and see how far the frame of each film is tilted.
What isn't counted doesn't count.
The Missing Measure is where I, Astrid Bussink, put my projects about what goes missing when it comes to women: on screen, in money, in the stories we get told. I look for patterns with AI and tools I build myself, then turn them into things you can play, pay, watch or stand in front of. For awareness, and hopefully for some actual change.

A voluntary social and artistic levy on what society asks of women and not of men: the taxi home, the lower pay, the hours of care, the birth. What can't be priced yet stays unbilled.
What we cannot see, we cannot become. Women grow stronger after fifty while their visibility shrinks. A search for the script nobody wrote.

What happens when the machines that suggest new stories learn from the old ones? A countermeasure for the films that were never made.
This is an art practice, not a research agency, and these are not official statistics. I build the tools by coding with AI, and AI makes mistakes. I check what I can, show where numbers come from and mark it when something is a guess.
The point is not a perfect figure. The point is a pattern you can no longer unsee.
For schools, conferences, organisations and events that want a talk or workshop about what goes missing when it comes to women, and how to make it visible. For festivals, museums and broadcasters who want to show the work. For collaborators who code, research or make, and for anyone with a story or a dataset that belongs here.
